Bridgeport Coffee

Happy Monday from Bridgeport Coffee in the Chicago South Loop!

Yesterday my family had their Christmas event where we went as a group to Blackhawks game! It was so much fun, we grabbed dinner out in the west loop before and the bar offered a shuttle bus for people to get them then over to United center for the game. It was a blast but after a night out with the family it was even better to wake up and not have to go to work.

Danny and I woke up and grabbed brunch at our local cafe that has just stolen our hearts and stomachs! After that we had a lot of holiday errands to run so naturally we needed some good coffee to keep up going all morning long mixed in with all the other holiday shoppers.

Luck for us Bridgeport Coffee just opened a location at Michigan Ave. and Jackson! So much more convenient than their original location which is further out on the south side. It has been on my list FOREVER, but sadly have never made it. They are know for sourcing beans from all over the world and air roasting them. Air roasting in the simplest way is roasting the beans in the air vs. in the big metal bowls you will more commonly see. This is suppose to help prevent the bean from burning and give them a fresher taste. All Bridgeport coffee beans are single origin, meaning they are sources from only that one particular farm and the bean selection is constantly rotating. So likely to be a different bean from a different region of the world each time you come in for a visit! So awesome!

Today upon arriving at Bridgeport it was pretty quiet and just one barista was behind the counter working. This shop is certainly structured to be more a pop in and out with your coffee, but in a perfect location for Loop commuters and people coming to the city to walk around Millennium Park. It’s the last stop before crossing the street into the park practically.

The barista was extremely welcoming and friendly talking to us a little bit about how his morning was and then also letting us know a little bit about the coffee beans they were offering this morning. El Salvador was where the beans were sourced from this morning and the barista was highly recommending it. Claimed anytime this coffee beans were on shelf it sounds out instantly! Welp alrighty then, you better believe we grabbed a bag to try at home later! It is a medium roast, which typically I prefer a dark bena for whatever reason. I think it offers more flavor when you drink it straight black like I do. I find medium roasts really good when you are using them in recipes for drinks or adding milk/cream to.

Which bean roast do you prefer?

Danny ordered his very typical cappuccino and I got a cortado, which the barista kindly gave me a double, no extra charge! Thank you good sir, the caffeine fanatic in me loved this.

Our drinks were both made perfectly, Danny really enjoyed his cappuccino, I unfortunately really enjoyed my cortado and espresso flavor but felt there was actually too much milk. My best guess is since he was giving me a double espresso he thought he would add a little more milk to help balance, but unfortunately per my particular taste I would much more prefer no additional milk added and just the double espresso. But hard to really complain since the extra espresso was a sweet surprise!

After we got our drinks we took a leisure stroll up Michigan Ave. taking in the winter sun and views! It was perfect and at this odd time in the afternoon was shockingly open and we were able to just take our time and enjoy our coffees! I will have to add this as a regular shop to stop in and buy beans from. I would rather purchase these beans than Starbucks coffee beans!
