Botanical Cafe

Happy day after Birthday to me! What better way to celebrate than going to the new local plant and coffee shop!

Botanical Cafe is a brand new cafe just a few blocks over that we happened to notice the other week while walking Duncan and we thought it was just a new plant shop till we saw there was also a coffee counter! Hooked immediately, Danny and I both.

The cafe is lined with plants and pretty much all windows, plenty of seating and very spacious! The baristas working today were the owners! They were so friendly, but you could still tell them to figure things out together. By figuring things out just making sure that each of them knew how to make all the drinks and food. It was cute to see!

This cafe has all the traditional coffee house offerings, but also a TON of tea to pick from as well. I would even go as far to say they had more tea selections than coffee. Also the food menu was built for quick breakfast bites, bagels and paninis. Their location is actually quite nice too, pretty well located to the Addison Brown line stop, so depending on which direction you were coming from you could easily walk by, grab coffee and a bite before catching the train.

I would consider walking a few blocks out of my way to swing in before catching the L. Can’t say that’s a bad way to start the morning!

Danny and Duncan were waiting outside for me while I went to get the beverages. Danny got a latte and I got a matcha latte with or course an added shot of espresso! Yum I was so excited to give this drink a try since they clearly had a strong focus on their tea.

While waiting for our drinks I got to chatting with the barista and learned that all the plants were brought in from a plant shop in Elmhurst! Pretty local, how cool! I would gladly come back here to get plants!

But unfortunately enough now that Danny and I have our own espresso machine we have turned into even more of a coffee snob. Where we both were not big fans of the espresso flavor from this cafe. While I was in the cafe the beans were just regionally named and not a brand name that I recognized. I will need to go back just to investigate a little more, but neither of us felt our drinks were that great. I actually felt mine was far too earthy tasting so maybe they put a few too many scoops of matcha in there.

I’ll go back once they have a few more months of getting situated and into their groove. I’m sure they are still being so new they are still practicing their craft as well.  It’s too close and unique of a cafe for me to complete write them off.
