Covid times call for road trip style vacations! Off to the east coast we go to visit my cousin Catherine, her husband and new puppy Moose! A year ago they moved to New Hampshire and this is our first time getting out there to visit! I cannot wait, granted I kinda wish we were flying so that we coils stop in Salem and Boston, but that will be another trip.
This time we are driving, stopping in Niagara Falls for a night and then continuing on our way! So of course I have been doing my coffee shop research, especially to know what cafes are still open during this crazy time. Small businesses are all going through hard times with Covid and I love getting the chance to support locals when and where I can. One of the top rated local shops that was luckily enough right down the street from where we were staying is Power City Eatery. Specializing in coffee and your classic New York style bagels!
Winning this morning with coffee AND a bite before hitting the road.
Now possibly due to the season, but thinking mostly with all the huge travel restrictions and everyone being scared about the virus Niagara was a literally ghost town. There is no one around or even out and about in the town at all. Extremely heartbreaking to see, but makes complete sense as well.
Reason I point this out is we had no issues driving around the city to just see the sites as well as getting to the coffee shop. There was not a soul in the cafe when we first got there! Made getting our coffees and food fast and efficient I guess.
I ordered a plain toasted bagel with peanut butter while Danny ordered a breakfast bagel sammy, with the typical egg and bacon! We both stuck with our recent fave of a honey flavored latte! The barista actually even commented how our drink order sounded good! 🙂
While waiting we were able to just hang out in the cafe, which by the way is HUGE! A very large long inside, mini shop in the front with cute trinkets and then a patio equally the same size as the cafe itself! I can only imagine how busy this place used to get or even in the summer when the weather is a touch warmer.
I can personally say I would have gladly ast on the patio to enjoy coffee and a bagel. This trip we were certainly on a time constraint as well as wanting to get out to see what we were able to walk through for Niagara! I mean can not go actually see the falls if we drove all the way here! That would be a crime!
Coffee and breakfast to go we took our plunder to the State Park to gobble it up before walking out to the Fall. Danny loved his bagel, go figure right? He loves bagel in general. I will say I enjoy a bagel every now and again, but this one really did not blow me away for a homemade New York bagel? Honestly never had and not sure what I thought I should have expected, but I might have hyped it up in my head expecting the chewiest bagel ever.
Nonetheless the coffee was hands down one of the best lattes I have ever had and the bagel equally as enjoyable!
If you are ever in Niagara please stop in and support this local gem! You won’t be let down.
