Wow, I don’t even link to admit or think about how horrible I have been about getting on and blogging. For that matter I have really fallen off on keeping tabs on all the Chicago coffee shops.
It has really been a wild past 6 months, I have moved to full time working from home, Danny and I moved and are paddling along on how to plan a wedding during all this uncertainty in the world. None of these should be my excuse for taking time to care for myself and my passion for coffee and this blog, but it has drastically fallen to the wayside. This was my escape, my time writing and I LOVED it. Sad to actually see how much things have changed and how the shift in the world has changed what now brings me comfort.
The one main reason and I am sure there are a few people out there too that can sympathize with this feeling, but the second I no longer need to look at my computer for work the very last thing I want to do is open my personal laptop and stare at a screen for another couple hours.
All that aside I realized how far I had fallen when one morning Danny woke up and recommended a new coffee shop that opened during the pandemic!
Yeah if all these businesses and keep their doors open then it’s still on me to get out there, try them and rave about all the great coffee shops that are still finding ways to keep this city caffeinated!
MeLatte lets go! Thank you already for reviving me and bringing this blog back to life. Out in Logan on Fullerton Ave this mini shop is kicking out some amazing coffee accompanied by the BEST empanadas I have ever had in Chicago!
It’s a very small shop with a few two seater tables on the sidewalk outfront, but it’s really set up or grab and go. There was not a line when we first pulled up, but this is the hot spot right now, the line was starting to wrap around the building. Take the Covide rules into account too, so it’s limited people allowed inside.
The coffee menu is every straight forward and just offering right now the cafe standard, I ordered shots over ice and Danny just went with the latte. The real variety here is the empanadas, endless options! There is a savory menu that contains some pretty well liked combinations, meat potatoes, peppers, shredded chicken flavored a couple waays. All look and smell delicious. Then there is a sweet menu, not as big, but offering fruit filled empanadas with cheese. (interesting right?). We went with two savory and one sweet!
The woman behind the counter this morning is the owner and the empanada recipe is her friend’s family secret! She was beyond convinced we would love these and be back all the time. After ordering she ran over to grab teh empanadas from the cases and put them in the warmer, such a delicious touch! By the way, on top of running theregister and warming the food she was also kindly explaining to the barista how to make our drinks! She was really running the show this morning!
Coffees ready to go and warmed empanadas in hand Danny took our morning treats home to enjoy. And oh did we enjoy every bite and sip! Wow it was all amazing. She was right we will be back for those empanadas, the crust was a deliciously buttery, flaky baked crust! Not fried! Paired so perfectly with the coffee, the savory was our favorite, but the sweet we ordered was a blueberry and cheese. Mind you this is cream cheese so it’s literally like a toaster pastry! SO DELICIOUS!
I cannot thank this cafe enough for bringing life back to my passion and giving me a great empanada shop to frequent.
You’ve simplified a subject that has always confused me, thank you!
Your commitment to quality is admirable.
I’m amazed at how much I didn’t know about this topic. Thanks for educating me.
