Hi all, sorry it has been SUCH a long time since I have last posted. I can promise you I still have been drinking coffee this whole time, just sadly not being good about sharing all my coffee. But I am back and in a new part of to Chicago and finally able to share a new coffee adventure.
This one of our first relaxed mornings here in the new apartment and the weather has finally started to turn into that comfortable fall temperature, this means I can get Danny and Duncan both interested in a longer walk, still assuming there is coffee for them in the end. Today we walked to Julius Meinl on Southport!
This is not my first time trying their coffee but it is my first time checking out this cafe! What a cafe this is indeed, it’s clearly one of their bigger locations because they offer a sitdown breakfast and lunch and afternoon coffee, tea and treats! You could come here and spend the whole day basically just eating and drinking coffee away. There is also a wonderfully sized patio seating for parties of all sizes.
The walk from our new unit is about 4 blocks away and took us know time at all to get there, we also both loved being able to walk the new neighborhood and admire the homes. When we got there unfortunately Danny and Duncan both had to wait outside while I ran in to get the coffees, but I wish they could have came in, the front counter and case is lined with coffees, teas and morning treats! They did not seem to be busy at this time, a few tables outside and a few inside, but clearly n wait just yet. I was shocked since it to me seemed about prime time brunch hours on a saturday.
I placed our drink orders and also order their homemade apple strudel pastry! The barista was friendly but clearly at the same time a bit preoccupied with other things going on in the restaurant portion. He asked if I wanted the pastry warmed up and this just sounded fabulous, naturally I said yes. As I waiting I just took a seat at the counter and watched as drinks for the cae were being made. They must have been much busier with in house drink order that it appeared because it took awhile for him to get around to making our drinks.
Finally both were ready, but still no strudel, I inquired on the time left and he said it would still be a few. I decided to go outside and wait for the rest of the time with Danny and Duncan, I also really didn’t want to have Danny’s drink order get cold just while we were waiting on the treat to be heated. After a few minutes I went in to check on the status again and this time the barista saw me coming and went back right away to pull the treat from the heater.
Seemed like it took them an offly long time to prepare the treat and drinks for people that were just trying to take both items to go. But nevertheless drinks and apple strudel were delicious and really hit the spot here this morning. All set and ready to go we walked back home, again just enjoying the new neighborhood!
This will be such a wonderful new area to explore, next time we are walking this way to get coffee I am totally getting the boys to walk a few blocks further so we can check out the Two Hearted Queen coffee shop again!
