Today I took the opportunity to visit Julius Meinl a coffee shop that has been around the corner from my office for the past two years! Sadly, I have been too lazy to visit, but not today!
We are just shy of a month into 2017 and a lot has taken place:
- Trump is the 45th president of the United States
- Following his inauguration there was a NATION wide Women’s March on Washington to support women’s rights!
What an amazing time to be a live and to be a woman, I could not be more proud and supportive of all my other fellow ladies out there!
Coming from a family of all women, except for Steve (dad), I am a strong believer in girl power and anything a guy can do a girl can do too! There have been a ton of hilarious bits floating around the internet cracking jokes about Trump. Sworn into office and the next day half the US population was out protesting against him. Not started out on the strongest foot.
In wake of all these monumental events I can’t help but think about what an exciting and interesting time it is to be alive. I don’t think there is a writer in Hollywood that could even come up with a story-line like this without others claiming it to be far-fetched.
Looking back on all this you know people will always look back and ask the age old question,
“Where were you when Trump became president?”
Well to be exact I was in a 3 hour long HR meeting going over company management changes and how said company will FINALLY have their employees set goals and actually be evaluated by their managers. So a coworker and I were stuck streaming the historic event from our work laptops while pretending to listen to HR gab on about professional goals and growth. All this talk of change and goals and starting 2017 out right had me thinking about my own personal goals for 2017.
What do I want to accomplish; professionally and personally? What good can I do this year to better the people around me? How can I grow and learn more.
So, after long deliberation my goal for 2017 is to live outside of my comfort zone as well as put more care into my blog.
But if there is ever a decision or opportunity that comes my way making me feel slightly unsure I’m going for it. Challenge myself in all ways in order to grow! Experience life a little more instead of letting opportunities to try something new pass me by. Basically I’ll be saying yes instead of no!
As first order of business, I need to get out and try more coffee shops. Since working at my current job there is a coffee shop I walk past but never give the time of day to. I have been a huge Peet’s repeat offender.
NOT TODAY MY FRIENDS.
Today I finally got my lazy butt into Julius Meinl! It’s a Vienna cafe style that roasts and brews Arabic coffee beans. The whole set-up to the cafe is meant to be a place to come and hangout, traditionally vienna cafes represents social life at it’s best. A gathering place for friends to come, catch up, discuss, work and just relax and enjoy the cafe ambiance.
My kind of place! So on National Gourmet Coffee Day (January 18) this is where I spent my afternoon and I am so glad I did.
First off, Julius Meinl is a small place and tucked into the heart of the Northwestern Medical district in Streetersville. Starbucks is literally on the corner so majority of the time people will stop there instead of walking a few extra steps to this gem.
Though small the cafe still has an inviting interior with a booth along one wall, tables and chairs surrounding it all. There is also a mini coffee station table with creamer and all other coffee fixing, but the key to this table is the water jug and cups. A coffee shop that is expecting people to hangout for longer periods of time will always equip their coffee fans with water to keep them hydrated as they dehydrate themselves on coffee.
I walked in right around lunch so there was a bit of a line, but nothing compared to the Starbucks on the corner. This also gave me time to browse the menu, a few drinks that caught my eye were the Melange and Milchkaffee.
Once my turn arrived I started chatting with the barista, inquiring about these two drinks. He explained that the Melange was similar to a cortado, a shot of espresso with a little steamed milk while the Milchkaffee is 50% coffee topped with warm steamed milk and foam.
Now you Know!
I ordered the Milchkaffee since the Melange sounded most similar to a latte, which I have had plenty of times. The barista was extremely friendly and personable, we got to chatting about what we each do as a career only to find out he had almost at one point accepted a job at my company, it’s a small world out there peeps. He also offered me a coffee card, which normally I am all over the coffee reward cards. Love getting that 10th drink free, but this time I declined. My reasoning on that will soon be explained:)
The Milchkaffee looks and tastes like a latte, they practically are drink cousins, with the exception being that a latte has espresso while the Milchkaffee has a coffee base. I liked the Milchkaffee more than the lattes I get from Starbucks! One, I can’t stand cream and when coffee shops add more milk than espresso I get so upset and usually a stomach ache later from the dairy, so this was perfect.
I couldn’t stop smiling while enjoying my drink, it was so delicious that I will 100% be back for more!
Another component to the Vienna cafe style that I LOVE, is the baked goods they offer, instead of the traditional muffins and cookies and breads a traditional vienna cafe will offer croissants, and cakes!
YUMMY!
Cake and coffee are my favorite combination, I tend to dunk my cake bites into my coffee. It’s addicting.
I will be back to Julius Meinl to try cake and coffee and possibly some of their espresso drinks! The cafe is small, but absolutely perfect, you can grab a seat at anytime and just enjoy the ambiance and you can’t get bored with the menu, plenty of new and interesting twists on drinks to try.
So far I am quite pleased with my start of 2017 and New Year’s goal setting! More goals to come.
What are some goals you have set for yourself this year?
Planning any big trips or life changing adventures?
Looking forward to reading more. Great blog post.Really thank you! Cool.
Undeniably believe that which you said. Your favorite justification seemed
to be on the net the easiest thing to be aware of. I say
to you, I certainly get annoyed while people consider
worries that they just do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out
the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal.
Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
This information is worth everyone’s attention. Where can I find out more?

I am regular reader, how are you everybody? This article posted at this web
page is actually good.
Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is valuable and all. However think about if you added some great visuals
or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”!
Your content is excellent but with images and videos, this website could certainly be one of the best in its field.
Awesome blog!
