Deep Creek Coffee

Deep in the creeks of the Virgin River of Zion National Park you will find this coffee house gem that served as my saving grace while camping at Watchman Campground. Thank you Deep Creek Coffee! 

First and foremost I want it to be know what I did actually purchase ground coffee and was fully ready to wake up and make my own coffee via campfire the true outdoorsy way to do it. BUT I did not take into account the fact that I mentally am all about getting outside but physically I live in Chicago so I am quite domesticated. I am not totally able to survive in the great outdoors, thank goodness Danny knows what he is doing (or plays it off well) other wise there would have been no fire at our camp site and I might have froze over night. As I digress I fully wanted to wake up, make a fire to make my coffee at the campsite, but we woke up after having not slept well the past night and freezing our butts off since the sun was not up yet. All we both wanted was some warmth before hitting the trails for the day. We also had our longest hike ahead of us.

So here we are at Deep Creek Coffee, just a stone’s throw from where we camped and it was a mini oasis! So perfect and totally packed with others people woke up feeling the same as us. GIVE ME COFFEE NOW!

Deep Creek is a true gem, it’s a small coffee cafe that roasts their own beans and was started in 2012 by two friends that had a love for coffee and adventures! The perfect duo! So Deep Creek was born, serving coffee, espresso, tea and a few baked goods. They have now fully extended their menu to offer more espresso options, coffee, more tea selections, delicious baked goods and now breakfast food too! I was my saving grace this morning because as I crawled from my tent all I wanted was a warm pick me up and I didn’t want it to take and hour to accomplish.

The exterior is totes adorbs! They have few small tables and chairs out front and then a small lofted area with plenty of seating right above the coffee shop. Great use of space if you ask me and give them more room for outdoor seating which I can image would be a huge hit in the warmer months. The inside it tight, the line bumping into the doorway does not help, but the counter is straight ahead when you walk in, few nick-nacks on the walls and then 6 small tables squeezed to the left. Simple clean and very busy this morning.

Gave me time to capture a few pictures, take in the menu and actually allowed for some seats to open up inside! Which was great since I did not really want to have coffee and breakfast outside in the wind.

Oh I forgot to mention the wind at Zion. I kid you not I was worried our tent was going to blow away. The wind picks up some great speed while whipping through the canyon and it will knock you over.
This was also half the reason I was not going to be make my coffee via campfire this morning, the wind would not have made it easy for me.  

So I ordered an extra shot latte and a scone, Danny also got a extra shot latte but he went for one of their breakfast sandwiches. We waited for everything to be brought over to us and the scone and coffee came out super fast so we both sat and enjoyed that while waiting for his sandwich. The scone was literally mind blowing delicious, I had ordered a scone at PublicUs and this scone here in the middle of the Zion Canyon takes the prize. It was mind blowing delicious. The gentleman next to us when he saw we ordered a scone even leaned over to mention that they were the absolute best he has ever had too. Even offered us some of his scone since he didn’t see himself finishing it. We politely declined eating this mas food, just didn’t feel right but it was a very nice gesture.

Unfortunately Danny’s breakfast sandwich took a lot longer than we had hoped since we were still trying to hit the trail early, so once his came up we boogied out the door so it is not pictured but it looked so delicious. He even said it was one of the top breakfast sandwiched he has had in awhile. So this place not only is serving up great coffee and drinks but they are bringing it with the baked goods and breakfast food! So glad we took the time to come here. 

My next beverage that day, aside from tons of water, was champaign once we hit the top of Observation Point. Just check out these views! Yes the temperature drastically changed too.

If you haven’t been to Zion National Park yet, I 100% recommend it. The people, views and camping are all amazing and will literally and figuratively take your breath away.
